For years, I’ve worn a heavyweight but undersized gi. Finally decided to invest in a quality suit and I’m thrilled with the result. I’m 5’11” and medium build; the 5.5 gi felt really large first time on but after training with it I realised it’s perfect. Great quality, great communication with Tokaido, and a very happy customer! Treated myself to an embroidered gi for that extra touch of class. Oss!
TOKAIDO note. Thank you for your review and we are happy that you are satisfied with our uniforms that we make in Pakistan. When you are ready we hope you will order one of our Japan Made uniforms to compare.
Amazingly happy with the level of quality
Posted by Karl Smith on 26th Nov 2020
Having recently begun training again after a 20 year hiatus I decided to spend money on a quality gi that would last me a long time. After a LOT of searching, I figured that the people who made the original karategis are probably the ones who know the most about the art, and I was not disappointed. The embroidery options were wonderful and when the gi arrived I was really taken aback by the quality of the weave and seams. It felt a bit large at first but after a couple of washes it's shrunk down to a good size. The legs are perhaps a little long for me - I have short legs so it would have been nice to have the option to shorten them, but as this is my first gi since I was a child, I had no idea how long they needed to be. However, the stitching on the hem is so robust that I can just give a quick turn up at the end and not lose anything, so it's not so much of a problem. The gi has a really nice snap and all my moves just feel more legitimate now than they did when I was training in sweatpants and vest. I'm reliably informed by my sensei that the gi should last me all the way to black-belt (which I imagine is something like five years), so at the price I really couldn't be happier. This thing oozes quality craftsmanship, and if I do need another gi either before or after black-belt, I know where to come. Outstanding.
TOKAIDO Note: Thank you for your very comprehensive review. We hope other customers will learn something from it. Our Japanese made uniforms are made to last if you take good care. Please follow these instructions and we are sure you will be satisfied.
Amazing service from Tokaido Japan and a great value in my Gi

Very fast shipping from Japan, with a nice order tracking service. This alone gets a 5 star review. The Ibuki TU1 is a great gi for the price. Very crisp cotton and a nice color. The traditional waist is nice as well. It has a great snap to it, considering its lighter weight, and the fabric crispness keeps it away from your skin during harder training.
The Gi was a bit large, but it allowed me to have it taken in slightly for a custom fit. I'm slightly over 5 foot 10 inches, and bought the 180cm size 6.
I'd buy this Gi again for sure....possibly a half a size down. Very happy with the product and Tokaido as always.
TOKAIDO note. Thank you for your comprehensive review. We appreciate how you understand the craftsmanship that goes into all our uniforms. We look forward to serving you always.
Bigger than expected but the cut is very comfortable
Posted by David M on 31st Aug 2019
Reading the other reviews I was afraid the gi would be to tight to move comfortable but it was not the case. My other gi (from a different brand) has a more tight cut and even though it is WKF certified, it is not as comfortable as this one.
I just wish I didn't had made the dumb choice to ask for a gi half a number bigger than my real size (I'm a 6 but ordered a 6 1/2). I was afraid it would shrink more that 10% and make it unwearable, but it seems that the shrink is considered in the size chart. So do yourself a favor and order the right size, do not over adjust considering the shrinking!
Also my name in katakana looks great, although I had to do adjust the phonetic translation to the one used in Spanish for my name.
TOKAIDO note... Thank you for the review. If you wash it in hot water it may shrink to the size you wish ... but we cannot guarantee nor recommend this.
Bigger and hoter than expected and made in Pakistan

Maybe I was not paying attenction, i got a made in pakistan gi not expecting it. The size looks pretty above the expected for the height, my son as 1,67 so i asked for 1,7 and is way to big for him, so make your size choose wise. The feednack from my kid is that the gi is too hot, maybe it will be a good fit for winter time. So it was a sucessful birthday present :-(
Regarding service and time, my congratulations to TOKAIDO alltought the transportation price is out of this world, but at least they comply totally with the planned date of deliver.
TOKAIDO note: Thank you for your review and we hope your son will wear in the wintertime as you wrote. We do write in the Product Description that the uniform is made in Pakistan. We also have a link to the size chart so that you can check the measurements for proper fit. We recommend that if you ahem any questions in the future before purchasing that you email to customer service and we will be happy to help.
It’s better quality than I expected.

While it may not be the best gi that ever existed, for a entry-level gi, it sure feels great and it better than the ones I used to wear. It has this unique crispness to it even after washing the gi. Furthermore, it’s really comfortable to wear and very sturdy to say the least. I hope that you continue to be the best that you are Tokaido!
TOKAIDO note: Very incisive review, thank you.

I purchased this for my 9 years old kid and looks fantástic. I am thinking on a tokaido gi for me and not sure if this gi would be the best for me or the Shikoku Taw . Is the cut similar and the cotton ? Or maybe the yakudo . I am not sure.
TOKAIDO note: Thank you for the review and we are happy that you are satisfied. The TAW is medium weight and the TSA Yakudo is heavyweight. Both are made in Japan from the highest quality Japanese cotton and a different cut than the Ibuki.
Really nice trainig Gi at a fantastic, unreal price!

Just received my Ibuki today, along with my Yakudo.
I'm very very happy with both of them, but I'm especially happy with the Ibuki.
Really nice gi, cotton feels great, size is great and provides a great fit - I ordered half a size bigger - and for the price, it's impossible to beat. The quality is astounding, the feel and the sharpness of the gi is there. I have to say that I even like it better than my Yakudo because of the fitting of the jacket. It's a gi that stands on a class of its own.
Thank you very much, Tokaido!

Ibuki my first Jap gi.

After few month of using, I still like this gi. It feel good on it. The cut are just nice for me. Except that surprise that one of the string detached a bit and require to re-sew. For its bottom pant, extra elastic band that come with it. It's good for an option to use. This is really something to praise. There is reasonably good snapping sound for this gi when performing tsuki and geri. If you iron the gi, it's sound is even better.
TOKAIDO note: Thank you for your detailed review.
